Workspace and Projects

Well I'm on to my next project, Warp Spiders. The cleaning is underway and I never really did give a review on Finecast. I know it has been beaten into the ground, but a few things I have picked up at fairly important.

First, make sure you clean the model with warm, soapy water. A lot of times the gunk they use as a lubrication is still in some of the pits and creases of your model.

Second, you do not need to prime them. The paint will soak directly into the model. Basically, you can give it a solid basecoat to start with, like a primer, but you do not need to prime it for the paint to stick.

When cleaning the model with your hobby knife, make sure the tip is sharp. Because of some of the corners you will be trimming, it makes it easier to use the tip than the rest of the blade.

And if you need to bend a piece into place, grab some hot water and soak the part for about 5-6 sec, pull it out and straighten it. Hold it in place till it cools and you'll be good to go!

But these guys are still being cleaned up. I need to fill in the puts with some Liquid Green Stuff, but it will be quick work.

Lastly, I wanted to show off my new workspace. I got plenty of room now and it is spacious around. I might need to grab a shelf for nearby storage and model holding.

As always, comments are welcome!

  1. Got a pretty nice setup there, I hope that's coffee and not watery paint! I've had times where I came close to drinking dirty water if I'm not paying attention...

    1. It is coffee! I've done that a few times as well. I've re-purposed some Gladware containers for my cleaning water to make sure I don't do it!
